President Donald Trump said Sunday he believes the Republican Party is “under attack” by “haters” in an interview with the New York Times.
“I believe we have to come together,” Trump said during the interview with reporter Joe Weisenthal.
“The Republican Party has got to unite.
The Democrats are divided, they are in the middle, they’re not unified.”
The interview comes just days after Democrats took control of the House and the Senate for the first time in decades.
Trump, who has repeatedly dismissed as “fake news” reports about his administration’s ties to Russia, blamed the Democrats for being “traitors.”
“The Democrats are traitors.
They want to be divided,” Trump told Weissel.
“They want to divide us, and they’re trying to do it.
We’re going to win this election.”
